I have a new love in my life.

Fellas, don’t laugh, because this is decidedly unmasculine, but I highly urge everyone and anyone to buy a vanilla soy steamer at any coffeeshop and top it off with a few dashes of cinnamon.

For those who aren’t in on the secret, a steamer is basically a flavored latte minus the espresso.

You might be wondering why I’d be using valuable editorial space to endorse such a strange product, but if there’s been any source of happiness in my life lately, it’s sprouted from this heavenly concoction of warm, lactose-free, creamy goodness.

“Mmm, tastes like Christmas,” I remarked to a co-worker recently after I took a sip at the Starbucks on 24th Street.

“I say that, too!” shouted a spry young blonde across the room. I used my skills as a former Starbucks barista to quickly decode the markings on her cup, and I figured out she was drinking a pumpkin spice latte. I gave her a disapproving shake of the head and headed out the door to enjoy the chilly, overcast day.

The low for this weekend is supposed to bottom out around 48 degrees Fahrenheit, and I couldn’t be more ecstatic. It’s the perfect time to enjoy my tasty elixir. It’s been with me through thick and thin — when I was stood up on a lunch date, when I was finishing off my fifth straight hour editing and writing stories, when I was about to enjoy Evil Dead 2 in the company of my friends one late night.

This weekend, I urge you to find the vanilla soy steamer in your life — find the little things in your life that make you happy and embrace them. It could be a nap with your dog, a date at a dive bar or an autumn mixtape.

Because we all know that with midterms looming over our heads, it’s the little things that keep us going.
