Endorsement: Time to clean house
The youth vote, especially here in Texas, is extremely important to both candidates. As Texas, Austin and UT have all entered the limelight as major players in the nomination process, we have been confused by Obama's relative absence from the home of such an important, excited and loyal constituency.
Clinton, while not as dazzling as her opponent, has asserted her presence to us. She has pledged to restore government support to college students by increasing the availability of Stafford Loans and Pell Grants. Her outline for a universal health care system is thorough and sound, while Obama unfairly exploits the resounding term "universal" in terms of his plan, which is voluntary and wouldn't actually serve America in its entirety (like Social Security, policy can only be universal if it is mandatory). Furthermore, Clinton's plans for Iraq ensure a gradual transition to stability for the Middle East. Clinton's abrasiveness, while somewhat off-putting, is essential in scrubbing our country clean of the grime the current administration has let build up. And by promising that the clean-up will begin in full effect on day one of her presidency, she's proved to us over and over again that she's ready, even excited, to get her hands dirty. Meanwhile, Obama's curent focus is geared toward winning the nomination, and we need more than hope and rhetoric to be reassured that the critical transition to come with the next presidency will be handled safely. We live each day in anticipation of Democratic leadership for this country. But considering the current state of America, now is not the time for radical change. We'd like to see Obama and Clinton work together in achieving the many goals they share. Obama has our confident vote in four (or eight) years' time. But for now, we can't risk trusting the judgment of our hearts. Logically, Hillary Clinton should be the next president of the United States. Under her leadership, we can return to being the great country we once were. The Texan strives to present all information fairly, accurately and completely.

This is one of the most idiotic editorials I have ever read. For starters, you are "confused" by Senator Obama's "relative absence" from the state? He has visited every major Texas city, as well as UT, despite participating in and winning 10 primaries in a row before this one. (Continued…)

I forgot to add to my prior comment another example of Candidate Clinton's lack of preparedness and interest in Texas: she did not realize until THIS MONTH how the Texas Democratic Party allocates delegates:

If you actually believe Hillary is the better candidate, that's fine. But it's clear that you don't. If you did, you would have provided a much better argument for her endorsement. (Continued…)

I'm an Obama supporter who has no problems with people backing Hillary in this primary, there are certainly valid reasons to back each candidate. However, if you even partially base your presidential endorsement on which candidate helps get you tickets to a debate, you are most certainly not a major newspaper and you just come off sounding like a spoiled child. The idea that Obama isn't paying attention to Austin is ridiculous particularly on a day when he is holding a major rally there. I agree with Marcus, I have no problem with you supporting Clinton, but you seem more annoyed that he may have implied that you weren't a major newspaper (given that you hadn't endorsed yet I don't think that was even true). This is a very lightweight endorsement, perhaps reflecting the people who wrote it. Endorse Clinton if you must, but give reasons and give some passion. (Continued…)

And, sorry kids, but with an editorial as childish as that one, you are NOT a major newspaper. That takes work.

Best debate ever!!!
Watching Obama wipe the floor with Hillary as she fires petty cheap shots $0
Watching Hillary squirm as the reality sinks in - Obama has more common sense in his pinky finger that she has in her whole body - and he's finally not afraid to show it $0
Learning that the only decent point she made in the entire debate - the last 2 minutes - was NOT genuine or heartfelt, but actually a PLAGIARIZED PHRASE SHE STOLE FROM JOHN EDWARDS. (Continued…)

I'm disappointed in the decision-making process of this writer. Making a decision based on whether a candidate considers The Daily Texan a "major newspaper" or whether a candidate could get you extra tickets to the debate strikes as immaturity. (Continued…)

Wow, I'm impressed. This endorsement will probably surprise more than a few people, but you've outlined the case for Hillary well. I hope this encourages students to take a fair look at both candidates before voting. (Continued…)
