Tramain Swindall, No. 11
Selected to the All-Big 12 Conference second team both his sophomore and junior years, senior defensive back Jamar Wall will probably be faced with the task to shadow Texas’ star senior receiver Jordan Shipley. The 5-foot-10-inch team captain from Plainview, Texas will try to slow down the Longhorn passing game, which ranks sixth-best in the country. If the Red Raider defensive line can consistently pressure Texas quarterback Colt McCoy as it did last season, look for Wall to play a key role in the success of the secondary.
Jamar Wall, No. 3
With top returning receiver Detron Lewis listed as questionable with a leg injury, sophomore Tramain Swindall will lead the flock of receivers for Texas Tech against a stout Longhorn secondary. Although the 6-foot-3-inch speedster from Oklahoma City, Okla. missed the season opener against North Dakota, he leads the Red Raiders in yards per catch, accumulating 123 yards and two touchdowns on six catches against Rice last week. While Swindall and fellow receiver Edward Britton will likely gain the most attention defensively, look for Potts to evenly distribute the ball as he completed a pass to 13 different receivers last week against the Owls.
Taylor Potts, No. 15
The 6-foot-5-inch highly heralded junior quarterback from Abilene bounced back from a mediocre starting debut to throw for 456 yards, seven touchdowns and no interceptions in a 55-10 win against Rice last week. Though critics argue that the Red Raider offensive system provides any quarterback an opportunity to put up huge numbers, Texas Tech head coach Mike Leach greatly praised Potts saying he was the most game-ready quarterback he has ever coached and that he would pick up right where former quarterback Graham Harrell left off.
