Amid weeks of record-high temperatures, brown grass lawns and water-conservation efforts, Austinites finally got a little break Tuesday morning when a cold front brought 2 inches of rain, a high of 93 degrees and a mostly overcast sky.
Austin Energy reported more than 10 power outages in Central Austin due to lightning strikes, leaving many businesses and homes without electricity for a brief period of time.
Amanda Fanning, a meterologist with the National Weather Service, said that the front — which did not completely envelop Austin — is pushing east toward Houston and that it was responsible for approximately 5 inches of rain in Waco.
